Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

  • Do I need a license?

    Yes, a license is required.

How do I get a fishing license in Loreto?

Within the marina, there is a small office where you will be able to purchase a license the day of your trip.  The cost is approximately $13 USD or $220 Pesos - please bring cash.  You will also need your Passport for identication.

  • What should I bring with me?

You will need some sunblock and a positive attitude.  In the winter time, it can get a little chilly in the morning, but usually warms up in the afternoon.  Plan ahead, Loreto is warm and sunny and we will be on the water for several hours.

As it relates to food, we can provide lunch upon request which will include burritos, bottled water, sodas and beers.

  • Will you process my fish?

Yes, we will clean and filet your fish to your specifications.  If you want your fish vacuum sealed, please bring bags with you as they are very difficult to get in Loreto.  Your fish will be put in plastic bags so you can transport the fish safely to your destination.

At the end of the trip, we will stop at a Loreto landmark to clean the fish.  This location will has a smoker that has been in operation for over 100 years.  You will have the opportunity to get some or all of your fish smoked at this establishment (extra fee applicable).

  • What type of fishing is available?

Fishing in Loreto is similar to fishing anywhere else in the world - it really depends the season.

In the summer time, it is great for top water fishing such as Dorado, Sailfish and Yellow Tail.  In the winter time there is bottom fishing for Grouper, Pargo (Snapper) and Jack Crevalle.  We catch Dorado or Mahi-Mahi year round.

Some fish such as sailfish, yellow tail and other types of fish are migatory and might not be in our local waters when you visit Loreto.  We try to accommodate all types of requests, but sometimes the fish have moved to other waters.  Please inquire if you have a specific request.

  • Do I need to speak Spanish?

No, all of our captains are bilingual and will be able to communciate with you.  Of course, we always appreciate you trying to speak Spanish and we will help as much as we can.

  • Will I get sea sick?

There are no guarantees.  We usually fish local waters but it is the Sea of Cortez which is a very large body of water.  We almost always have visibility of the land.  If you get seasick when you are on a boat on a lake, then take precaution.

  • How do I get from my resort to the marina?

The marina is located near the center of Loreto, please consult your concierage or ask a local taxi driver.
